Druks uses the Functional Source License, version 1.1, with an Apache 2.0 future license (FSL-1.1-ALv2). The license text is the contract. This page explains it.

What you can do

  • Run Druks for your own company, on your own infrastructure.
  • Change the code.
  • Write apps for Druks and license them on your own terms.
  • Use Druks for non-commercial education and research.
  • Install and operate Druks for a client, in the client’s own infrastructure.

What you cannot do

You cannot make Druks available to others in a commercial product or service that competes with Druks. A hosted Druks service is an example.

Software houses and agencies

You can install, operate, and extend Druks for one client in the client’s own infrastructure. The client is the licensee, and you supply professional services to it. If you host Druks for many clients as a paid service, that is a competing use. For this case, contact us through druks.ai about a partner agreement.

When a release becomes Apache 2.0

Each release becomes available under the Apache License 2.0 two years after we publish it. Druks code published before the change to the Functional Source License, which includes v0.12.0 and earlier releases, stays under the MIT License.
